NEW Alumni speaker series for Business Side begins this week

A top priority of the DP’s Business Department for this coming year is to foster a deeper connection with our business side and business centric alumni. In order to do this, we have created a new DPAA speaker series called Biz Matters where alumni will share their story, experiences and expertise directly with our students.

Biz Matters will take place mostly on Fridays from 12:30pm – 1:30pm, in person and/or over Zoom. Guest speakers will be guided in a 30 – 40 minute interview for an audience of students; DPAA alumni are welcome too! We will take questions from the audience towards the conclusion of the program.

We are always in need of great speakers from a variety of backgrounds for future dates. If you are interested, please email Business Manager, Greg Ferrey at gferrey@sas.upenn.edu.

We appreciate all the DPAA and our alumni do for our students and look forward to learning from you this semester!

Best,

Greg Ferrey

Business Manager at the Daily Pennsylvanian

New DP Mentors Program Looking for Alumni

The DPAA is thrilled to announce DP Mentors, a new program that will tap into the DP’s deep and dedicated alumni network to offer DP board members sustained, one-on-one support and counsel.

We are looking for DP alumni to match with students based on the specific needs and priorities of DP board members. Each student-mentor pair will be required to meet on a video call once a month, with the freedom to expand communication depending on the student’s needs.

DP Mentors is intended to offer board members the real-world guidance only DP alumni can provide—from answering day-to-day questions about covering the Penn community to providing real-world counsel about careers in journalism and beyond.

As mentors, you will get the opportunity to learn in depth about the DP of today and have a direct impact on the next generation of journalists and DP alums.

To become a DP Mentor, please complete this Google Form by 9pm EST on Wednesday, February 2nd, 2021.

It’s an exciting time at the DP and we are grateful for your continued support. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Amanda Suarez ’16 (hello@AmandaMSuarez.com) and Stefan Fatsis ’85 (sfatsis@gmail.com).

Warmly,

Amanda and Stefan

An End of Year Message from Molly Cohen ’25

Dear DP Alumni Community,

We sincerely hope this email finds you well!

My name is Molly Cohen, I am in my first year at Penn and I am a member of the DP’s Development team. Believe it or not, another great year at the Daily Pennsylvanian is coming to a close. Thanks to gifts from DP alumni, our 137th year was extremely successful! We were able to tell the stories that affected the Penn community most and continue our work towards becoming a more inclusive organization. Most importantly, together we provided financial support and transformative experiences for the DP student staff.

Our team of writers, editors, photographers, podcasters, marketers, storytellers and more, worked tirelessly in 2021 to produce the award winning work that has become our organization’s standard and legacy. None of this would have been possible without the generosity of our alumni.

Without a doubt 2021 has been long and tiring for everyone, Penn students included; however, our students were there at every twist and turn to cover the news, discuss the latest trends, and even crack a joke. With your generosity, the Daily Pennsylvanian will continue to be the home for creativity, ingenuity and storytelling on campus. As the DP welcomes its 138th board and as we are preparing for our biggest year yet, please consider donating to help student journalism and media thrive at Penn.

Over 480 donors have given to the Daily Pennsylvanian in the last year, enabling the DPAA to provide more than ever before; allocating and awarding close to $200,000 to our dedicated and deserving students. It is not too late to join your fellow alumni in helping the next generation of Quakers learn how to tell the stories that must be told and can only be told at the DP.

Make Your Annual Gift Today

Thank you for all you do. Have a wonderful holiday and a Happy New Year!

Warm regards,

Molly Cohen ’25
