An Update from DPAA President Amy Gardner

It has been quite a season for all of us — doing our best to survive and even thrive during the coronavirus pandemic, making sure our loved ones are safe and healthy, watching and in some cases participating in the tumultuous political landscape and, of course, trying to help The DP prosper and continue its tradition of exceptional journalism.

First, I’d like to offer a heartfelt thanks from the entire DPAA board to those of you who have contributed time or money to The DP in the past year. I am happy to share that the results of our efforts are real. We are successfully adapting to the multifaceted demands of being a 21st-century media organization. We are removing longstanding barriers to participation through a series of innovative initiatives, which include: the expansion of our flagship summer internship experience, a new DP Fellowship program which aims to attract and retain students of color to The DP,  and student salary stipends designed to create further incentive for students to dive into The DP experience and give it their all. This would not have been possible without the ongoing support of the DPAA. Many, many thanks!

I’d also like to urge you all to keep your eyes out this spring for a redesigned DPAA website and a brand new alumni competition called Masthead Madness, planned by our Development team and in partnership with students from our business side. I hope you’ll all participate!

  — Coming in March!

Our goal as an alumni association is to increase your connections to The DP, to harness your own experiences for the current student leadership and to create multiple avenues for all of you to participate and contribute in ways that work for you.

More to come soon!

Best,
Amy Gardner C’90
