If you shop on Amazon — occasionally or frequently — you can support the DP at the same time!
Amazon has a charitable giving program called AmazonSmile which gives half of one percent of every purchase to a supported non-profit organization. Half of one percent may not sound like a lot, but if every DP alum did this every time they shopped at Amazon, it would add up to a significant gift to the DP each year.
With Amazon’s popular shopping holiday, Prime Day, coming up on July 16, this seemed like a good time to ask every DP alum who purchases from Amazon to register the DP as your supported charitable organization. For those who have already been doing this, thank you! For those who haven’t, it’s very simple:
- Click this link in your preferred browser to register yourself supporting The Daily Pennsylvanian. (It will simply ask you to log into your Amazon account, if you’re not already logged in, or click a button to confirm your support of the DP if you are.)
- Then use the URL smile.amazon.com (instead of plain amazon.com) any time you shop at Amazon.
That’s it! Everything will be the same, but you’ll see “Supporting: Daily Pennsylvanian, Inc.” under the Amazon search bar. (You can even see how much your orders have contributed to the DP by clicking that link.) This doesn’t affect the price you pay; Amazon simply donates 0.5% of your purchase price to the DP.
And in this era of concern about the data collected about us, if you have any concern about the DP receiving data about your Amazon shopping habits, rest assured that AmazonSmile is completely blind to us — the DP doesn’t see who has been buying, how much you have spent, or get to pass judgment on what you’ve been buying! The DP simply receives the aggregated proceeds from supporters once a quarter.
